What is a Hypnotherapist?

I don’t actually get asked this question as often as you might think. I believe this is because a lot of people assume that they already know what I do and that it involves swinging a pocket watch or getting people to stare into a swirling spiral. Many people who contact me are very nervous about staring hypnotherapy. This is because most peoples understanding of hypnotherapy is based on information they have gained from the TV or stage shows. Stage hypnotists are there to entertain and nothing more. Hypnotherapy is not about entertaining people –  it is used to empower people to make positive changes in their lives. I always spend time with my clients explaining how I work.

In hypnotherapy we use hypnosis to help people access their subconscious minds and move forward with their lives.

But what is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is really just being in a deeply relaxed state. It is a natural state to be in and you have probably experienced it before without even realising it. It is like being in a daydream or that feeling just before you fall asleep. I help people to relax by talking to them. Once you are deeply relaxed you are much more open to suggestions. This means that you can change the way you act, feel or react to things for the better. It is a bot like reprogramming your mind. Hypnosis is not something that I do to you or for you and it certainly isn’t mind control. In this therapy we work together to help you move forward.
